15.

Whoa. I’m…15. That’s…sort of scary. It’s hard to believe that after so many years, I am finally:
1. Older than Maximum Ride, who is apparently 14
2. Older than Giannine, from Heir Apparent
3. The same age as Eragon in the first book.
4. The same age as Cole in Touching Spirit Bear
5. The same age as Clary Fay in City of Bones, although she of course, turns 16 later on in the book.
6. The same age as Tally Youngblood in Uglies
7. The same age as Jessica Day in the Midnighters Trilogy
8. The same age Aya Fuse in Extras (Is it just me, or does Scott love writing about 15 year old girls? lol)
9. The same age Harry Potter in the Order of the Phoenix.
10. The same as Aurora and Fia (in the beginning of the book). And maybe Evangeline (the main character of my next book), although I might make her a tad bit older.
11. On a scary/disturbing note, 15 year olds are of legal age to be sent to prison in the UK and to have sexual intercourse in Sweden. D: And, in most cultures, officially a “young adult”.

Funny how, for the characters in the books, they seemed much older when I was reading them. I remember sitting around in my 10-11-12-13-14 year old body going: Wow…15 year olds are so crazy and old!
Now, I’m one of them. -_-; Can’t say if I’m happy about it or not.

…Well actually, I’m kind of glad to get rid of my 14 year old self because 14 just wasn’t one of my best years. A lot of sad things happened. Same with 13. Hopefully 15 will be better.

But whether or not aging is a good thing, it is sadly inevitable. If only a sexy vampire was around to give me immortality…in a few years. (I DO NOT want to spent an eternity as a 15 year old, thank you very much. 20, maybe.)

And although my birthday wish of about 3 years now has not yet come true, I have a feeling that I am getting closer each year. ; )

Chiaroscuro (V. Fia) Soundtrack

Here are some of the music that I think are part of the book’s soundtrack. Note: I generally don’t pay attention to the lyrics. Most of the songs (ie: The Hamster Dance) are there because of the overall mood.
The last three songs, however, are there b/c the lyrics, too. (There are others, but these are the ones that definitely fit.) The music switches from different point of views…guess which one is who! LOL.

Oh, and the reason why I made this a Youtube thing is b/c some of them are korean songs and I wanted to have subs for them. (Some have the lyric translations in the descriptions, so be sure to look there, too.)But as a result, some have disturbing music videos. I suggest you just not look at the screen for the English ones.

Happy Belated 1st Birthday Blog!

I meant to post this on Sunday but didn’t have time to do so…The official birthday of my blog was 4/05/08. (Well, actually, I have my suspicions that in reality the blog is older…I just didn’t get around to actually posting an entry until 4/05.)

Looking back in the archives, I can see how much I changed…and how much I DIDN’T change. I’m still editing my novel (although back then I was actually ‘done’ with editing…notice the quotes), I’m still hoping to become a published author someday, I still have awesome friends to back me up, and I also am winning a lot of poetry awards.

I don’t know if you’ve heard about this, but I won “Award of Excellence” (first place, but I didn’t get to move on to nationals) in the Texas PTA reflections. I ALSO am one of the top ten in the Creative Communication’s poetry contest…and thus recieved $50 in savings bond. (sweet.)

I think I have grown a lot as a writer and hope to continue to do so in the future.

The Book in Which a Body is Hijacked–Repossessed by A.M. Jenkins

“A demon is sick of doing his job in hell, and decides to take an unauthorized vacation by hijacking a teenage guy’s body and using it to experience physical life.”

That is how A.M. Jenkins, the author of “Repossessed” and “Night Road” (and many other books, but these two are the only ones I’ve read) described her book.

And before I go on to talk about the book, I can’t help but point out how eye-catching and awesome her one-sentence summary is! I bet she used it for her query letter. (In the query letter you send to agents and publishers, you have to include a one-sentence summary of your book. I had a lot of trouble with this… D:)

Repossessed has far exceeded my expectations (Yeah, yeah, I know, I probably said the same for “Night Road”…) But it’s true! Especially because the cover had me convinced that it’d be about some evil Demon wracking havoc on mankind:

And although this cover DID capture my attention and caused a reflex action in which I grabbed it and shoved it into my library bag, but it also made me hesitant to read it in fears of being exposed to just plain silly and utterly pointless immorality.

But then I opened the page and was greeted by the awesomely rich and complex voice (not physically) of Kiriel, a “Fallen Angel” (He says so himself that he prefers that name, and not Demon). Kiriel, as mentioned above, is a sort of mirror in the way he relentlessly reflects the sins and crimes of the people in Hell so that they exist in constant misery and regret. After thousands of years of experiencing second-handedly life on Earth, he gets curious and ventures up, searching for a body. And lucky him, there happens to be a moody, reticent boy who is just seconds away from being hit by a bus.

Now, don’t get me wrong, Kiriel DID NOT technically ‘hijack’ the body. The boy (whose name is Shaun) would have died anyway. Kiriel chose him specifically because he decided that he would be doing the boy a favor by saving him and keeping his body alive.  At least, that’s what he told himself over and over again to ward off the obvious guilt and grief that constantly seemed to bind him like shackles.

NOT that he was depressed and mopy all the time. No, Kiriel was too busy exploring to worry. (He only worried about those kinds of stuff at night, in bed.)

I have to say that “Repossessed” has really altered my perception of life. It was very amazing and thought-provoking to “see” the world through the eyes of a non-human. I think Jenkins did an excellent job in pointing out the fact that people often are too caught up in their own petty affairs to experience and live life.

One of my favorite ways that she did this is when Kiriel, in his new body, takes a bath…for 2 1/2  hours. HAHA. The boy’s family was all like: What the heck is up with our son?!
The mom’s immediate conclusion: le gasp. He must me in love! Aw…how cute.
Uh…WRONG. More like, your son just got body-snatched by a random demon.

Dante’s Divine Comedy–What Hell Do You Belong In? (Test discussed by Stanton and Whitten)

The Dante’s Inferno Test has sent you to Purgatory!
You have escaped damnation and made it to Purgatory, a place where the dew of repentance washes off the stain of sin and girds the spirit with humility. Through contrition, confession, and satisfaction by works of righteousness, you must make your way up the mountain. As the sins are cleansed from your soul, you will be illuminated by the Sun of Divine Grace, and you will join other souls, smiling and happy, upon the summit of this mountain. Before long you will know the joys of Paradise as you ascend to the ethereal realm of Heaven.

Here is how you matched up against all the levels:

Level Score
Purgatory (Repenting Believers) High
Level 1 – Limbo (Virtuous Non-Believers) High
Level 2 (Lustful) Very Low
Level 3 (Gluttonous) Low
Level 4 (Prodigal and Avaricious) Very Low
Level 5 (Wrathful and Gloomy) Low
Level 6 – The City of Dis (Heretics) Very Low
Level 7 (Violent) Moderate
Level 8- the Malebolge (Fraudulent, Malicious, Panderers) High
Level 9 – Cocytus (Treacherous) Low
