Thoughts of an Aspiring Teenage Writer

OMG Rachel Vater finally replied to my query…and rejected it. BUT WAIT, here’s the awesome part. Below the rejection blurb (“sorry, but it isn’t right for my list, maybe some other agent will…blah blah”) she wrote a footnote that says:

” *** Despite your young age, this is one of the better query letters I’ve
read tonight. I hope you keep writing and keep submitting. If you’re writing this well at 14, I’ll bet you get your first book published while you’re still a teenager.”

OMG I want to run and give Rachel a big hug. That little footnote made up for the fact that she rejected me…almost.

Wow, she sent this after I last checked my email…which was around 10ish. She must be into late night stuff. LOL

{May 14, 2008}   Rejections Galore~

Okay, so I got two rejections in a row yesterday and also today.
One of the agents, Sarah Davies, said that I was better than some of the adults that submitted to her…but my writing was not quite mature enough. Yet, Meg Cabot, who uses teenspeak on purpose is a bestselling author. I don’t quite get this. :( I sent her a reply asking her to clarify. Hopefully she’ll respond.

OMG Lightning fast response. She says that I should get a lot of people to read and critique my writing. I think she was a little pissed off that I responded to her rejection. LOL

Okay….

This is my current agent-querying status so far:

Agents

AGH SO MUCH RED!

Okay first, I’d like to secretly congratulate (I say secretly because I doubt Stephenie Meyer will ever read this entry) for the article that TIME magazine FINALLY wrote on her. (I was begging them to write one ever since JK Rowling appeared)

I have no doubt that SHE IS THE NEXT JK ROWLING. Except even better, because she has romance. Now a lot of you may disagree that JK Rowling is better. Well, I don’t want to start a whole arguement about it but this is just my opinion. (And no mock trial peoplez, you CANNOT object to me for “opinion or speculation”…LOLZ)

Okay, fine, I admit that this article is probably one of the few articles in TIME magazine that I’d really enjoyed. Sure, there are some occasional articles, but mostly I just stick it (it comes in the mail every week) in a corner on my desk and never get around to reading rest of them. (Especially because the recent politics. I mean, as much as I care about who is the president of america or not…but I’m sick and tired of them practically tracking down every single move of Obama and Clinton. I mean, COME ON! Who cares if they made a mistake? They’re human!)

Mock Trial. OMG. SO AWESOME/SENSATIONAL/STRESSFUL/FRUSTRATING/FUN!
Combine all of those words and you would get mock trial. LOL
Although I don’t think I really played a huge role in the trial (I mean, come on, Bobby Powers was already dead when he showed up in my autopsy table. I was the only truly innocent person there.) It was AWESOME to be able to see/hear/interact with the other teams and talk about the our experiences at the end of the year. This was probably better than any choir concert/event I’ve ever been to. If there is mock trial in high school and I don’t totally Azn-fail next year, I’m definitely going to sign up.

Rejection. I got one from Ms. Alyssa Henkin….a FORM rejection. Hm. She rejected to the query, so it’s not my writing that made her reject…THIS TIME. But meh, I don’t care anymore. The only rejection that would make me feel bad is probably Caren Johnson’s (whose response I don’t expect until at least when school gets out…for good. ((meaning middle school, lol)) ) becuz I sent her the FIRST FIFTY OR SO PAGES. IF she rejected to that, I would probably go back and rewrite.

Oh by the way, for those of you who haven’t seen this yet, this is the behind the scenes look/trailer for twilight. PRETTY WICKED EFFECTS if you ask me. I can’t wait!

Okay, so yesterday I got a rejection from Andrea Somberg of Harvey Klinger…a PERSONAL one. Yikes. I think I’d rather have a form letter, because hers was kinda…harsh.

“Thanks for sending along the opening pages of Lightweaver. Truth be told, though,  I’m afraid they didn’t draw me in as much as I had hoped.  I’m pressed for time these days and, what with my reservations about the project, I suspect I wouldn’t be the best fit.”

Yikes. I sent her the first five pages…which I admit aren’t THAT great. Maybe I should rewrite after all? Nah…I’ll wait until Caren Johnson contacts me. I sent her the first FORTY-SEVEN pages…I’m sure she’ll tell me to rewrite the beginning if I have to. Then again, it’s just Ms. Somberg’s opinion… I hope.

Today, I got a FORM rejection letter from Faye Bender. I sent her the first TEN pages, which is warning me that I should really cut out the first ten pages, like Rachel said.

Quote from Rachel: A really good opening might be hiding in those first ten pages. All you have to do is find it and drag it out to the first page.

Not an exact quote, but what I remember.

Ho-hum…No response to Caren Johnson. Maybe I should ask if she recieved it?

{April 11, 2008}   First Partial…SENT

I JUST sent a partial to Caren Johnson…
(which was the first 47 pgs and a 4 page synopsis)
I wonder if she’s going to want more…
I’ve heard people say that they’ve been rejected after they sent the partial.
Cross your fingers, everybody! (And if she does reject, let’s hope another agent will come along…)
